WHAT DO I KNOW ANYWAY?

I’ve worked in the sales industry for about 10 years and only six of those have been in fitness industry sales, so what the hell do I know ?

Well, if you had asked me six years ago I would of said not a lot to be honest.

Yet, somehow in my first month on the job as a ‘membership consultant’ as it were so nicely named back in the day, I sold more than anybody else in my division-by a long shot.

That’s me! My first month on the job I got a laminated certificate with my name on-fancy! And the coveted red dog tag that signifies number one – I was pretty happy as you can tell!

When I started in the fitness industry I went into the job as a ‘salesperson’, a relatively mediocre one at that.

I had no idea what the difference was between a squat and a lunge and my idea of healthy eating was only eating half a bag of chips for dinner instead of the whole thing-go me!

I even had to borrow a pair of runners for the workout part of my interview , not because I was broke but simply because I just didn’t own a pair- I had never worked out in my life!

My manager told me on day one that  as a newbie in my first month I could expect to hit about 60% of my goal- I hit 176% .

OK so fast forward six years and a whole stack of red dog tags and more laminated certificates than I know what to do with and here I am.

I still work in the fitness industry but what I’ve learned over the last four years has less to do with how to with exercise lingo and more to do with people skills.

I’ve spent hours of online research, book reading and attending sales seminars to help myself grow and sell even more memberships and personal training packages.

Although useful, I couldn’t find much out there to do specifically with fitness industry sales.

So I took from my research what I could, and have continued to be in the top 5% where I work.

I’ve also seen countless co-workers crash and burn when it comes to fitness industry sales and I’ve seen some shady sales ‘techniques’ over the years which in the end, only serve to intensify the sleazy car salesman image that unfortunately, a lot of prospects see personal trainers and consultants as.

I want to put a stop to the perception that the only way to sell a gym membership or personal training is by waiving enrollment fees and discounting your services.

Me with my award for number 1 fitness sales in Canada !

Stop hiding behind your sales manager and use my simple but effective methods to sell more  without using the ‘hard sell’ and ‘pressure tactics’.

Start enjoying working in the fitness industry again with a clear conscience , after all, people are paying money to be tortured three times a week-the least we can do is make the sign up part enjoyable !

I’ve put together some of what I’ve learned so you don’t have to spend your time doing all the research that I did and losing potential sales through trial and error.

I do have a paid program where you can learn step by step , my proven but simple  methods on how to effectively make more sales in the fitness industry than you knew possible but hey- we all know how much people love a freebie and “just want to try it first” before committing to parting with money. So please enjoy this website- for free!

PS did I mention that I work roughly 40 hours a week, I take my break, go home on time (most days) and I have zero formal education in business, sales , personal training or anything to do with what you might need to sell a gym membership or personal training? No? OK just wanted to put that out  there and remind you that you don’t necessarily need any of those things either.

This is me making calls at work booking lots of appointments…Joke ! I wish my office looked this good !

Also for anybody who wants to know, I’m originally from Dublin’s fair city (where the girls are so pretty…!) on the emerald isle and have lived in Vancouver, Canada for almost five years. My favorite city to visit is Portland OR, my favorite food is pizza, I’m at risk for sunburn anytime the sun comes up (hello SPF 50) and my life goal is own a library.

Yep,a library, that’s what I said.

That’s enough about me- the first rule in fitness sales-stop talking about yourself… more on that later!
